Chaos on the Paradise Island: A Found Poem from Lord of the Flies by William Golding

(Taken from page 4-6 , 206-225)
Chaos on the Paradise Island
Shaded with palm trees, reclined against the light
Their green feathers, a hundred feet up in the air
The dazzling beach and the dark blue open sea
Covered with a thin layer of soil and coarse grass
Attractive flowers of violet, red, and yellow
However, the understandable and lawful world was slipping away
Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!
came a grasp, and a squeal of pain
The cry swept across the narrow end of the island from sea to lagoon
Above the horizon were no longer a deep blue patch of open sky but a blanket of darkness
The whole island shuddering with flame, scorched up like deadwood
Smoke seeping through the branches in white and yellow wisps
Great heaviness of murky cloud, between the island and the sun
Rocks thumping and smashing towards the beach
Shower of broken twigs and leaves
The obvious thunder of fire and scribbled ululations
Pigs squealing out of the greenery, birds screaming, mice shrieking
The understandable and lawful world, slipping away
